Oscar Worthy

How great were the Oscar's last night?! Ellen is hilarious and made the entire show so much more fun to watch despite the long, drawn-out speeches.  I guess they don't have a time limit on the amount of time they can speak for? Bo-ring!  And how about Gravity winning in nearly every category? I haven't seen the movie so I can't be too critical, but I just thought it was a bit much.  Rant over.
On another note, I loved the gowns, the red carpet and all the beautiful and tastefully dressed pregnant women.  Olivia Wilde was absolutely stunning in that Black Valentino gown and Kerry Washington was glowing and looked so lovely.  Just goes to show that you can totally dress up a bump and look like a classy bombshell.
My husband and I went to a friend's house for an Oscar party, which was a really fun way to watch the show. I had been playing around with what I was going to bring until Quinn handed me a page from the Toronto Star on sunday morning with recipes for dressed up popcorn - how brilliant and totally appropriate.
I made a few tweaks to the recipes and then tossed it into some tin buckets to bring along.  It was a big hit and I will definitely be making more and trying different variations with different herbs and cheeses.

 Rosemary, olive oil, parmesan

Black truffle parmesan

Black truffle Parmesan
-Air pop or stove pop about 1/2 cup pop corn kernels
- 12-15 tbsp of good quality black truffle oil
- 1/4 real fresh grated parmesan cheese (Kraft parm cheese will ruin this, people!!)
- a few dashes of black truffle salt
mix well
Then top with a small dusting of salt, some cheese and a splash of truffle oil

Rosemary, Olive oil Parmesan
-Air pop or stove pop about 1/2 cup pop corn kernels
- 1/4 cup of good quality olive oil
- a sprig of chopped rosemary
-1/4 cup real fresh grated parmesan cheese
- salt
mix well
Garnish with a few sprigs of rosemary and some cheese.

Enjoy!

The Bar Cart

I'm gonna go ahead and get a little gross here for a few minutes, so just bear with me and until we get to the good stuff.

      u·vu·la

       [yoo-vyuh-luh]
         noun, plural u·vu·las, u·vu·lae  [yoo-vyuh-lee]

the small, fleshy, conical body projecting downward from the middle of the soft palate.

**Basically, the little thing that hangs down at the back of your mouth**

canker

[kang-ker]
noun

a gangrenous or ulcerous sore, especially in the mouth.

**Basically a majorly painful thing in your mouth that hurts when you do just about anything**

(source: dictionary.com)

For whatever reason, I get a lot of cankers in my mouth and they come in packs and sit on the gum line, tongue, and cheeks, so it's extremely painful for about 7-10 days.  There is no known reason for why these things occur and really, for someone who is as anal about dental/oral hygiene as I am, I have no clue as to why they target me, but I've been getting them since I was really little.  My mom would sometimes keep me home from school because I was in so much pain and litterally chewing my mouth apart to distract from the pain of the sores.  If you've ever had one, or in my case 5+ at a time, you know how painful it is to eat, drink, swallow, talk, breath, and sleep and just generally exist.

The point of this disgusting story is coming. Ew.

About 4 days ago, I noticed I my throat was getting sore.  Naturally, I upped my vitamin dosage, and loaded my water with those badass emergen C packets.  I thought I could fight this off before it turned into anything serious.
time passed and I couldn't understand why my throat was getting progressivly worse and feeling more and more like strep throat, and yet I felt fine.  I had no fever, no ailments, no fatigue, nothing, except this gnarly sore throat.
Since I'm already playing nurse to my wounded, crippled husband, I figured I would try on myself too.  So I did what any WebMD nut bar would do, I stuck a flashlight in my mouth and examined my own throat.

You want to know why my throat hurts??  I have a freaking canker sore ON MY UVULA!!! Is that even possible?!?!?! Apparently so, but very uncommon.
DO NOT GOOGLE THIS!!! Barf!

As soon as I diagnosed myself, I went straight to Quinn to tell him - no, not show him, you freaks! He insisted I gargle with warm salt water.

I on the other hand, as the veteran canker girl, I have my own remedies…

Beginning with this snazzy new bar cart! Can you believe it's from Target!?! I was delighted when I found it a few weeks ago and I happily pushed this baby all around the store.  I even had to take down the convertible top in the middle of a crazy blizzard snow storm to load it in my car.  People were giving me all sorts of crazy looks but I didn't care, this thing was coming home with me no matter what. I love the fact that it's brass, has wheels, two tiers, oh and it was under $200!

Now check out how I styled it and how I'm numbing the pain of this uvula canker.

There you have it, all the important necessities of a well stoked bar cart.

Cheers

Miami Heat

I just returned from an amazing little getaway with Quinn.  He was so sweet and brought me to the sun since he obviously couldn't bring the sun to me.  Miami is such a fun city and I love the fact that it's a quick flight under 3 hours.  We walked the beach, laid out on the beach, had drinks on the beach, did some shopping, enjoyed some fab restaurants and just lots of relaxing.  I love going away with him, we always have so much fun together!
Here are a few shots from an outfit I wore to an AMAZING Italian restaurant.  We walked up the beach to the hotel beside us and had the best night at the Acqualina Resort and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Il Mulino located inside the hotel.

Modern day Cher

I know what you're thinking, the 90's called and they want their socks back! Funny thing is, I actually wore these socks in high school as a part of my school uniform and I guess I just never got rid of them.  I was channeling my inner Cher Horowitz in this outfit, only I'm not a virgin who can't drive, "that was way harsh, Tai".  Clueless is such a classic and definitely one of my favorite movies, infact I'm pretty certain I can recite almost every line.
On another note, I was also trying to showcase one of my Valentine's day looks.  This is ideal for someone who may not want to be an explosion of pink and red.  There's a subtle pop of pink under the darling little cropped sweater, and with the little heart pattern it is just so perfect.  Of course topped off with a pink coat, this look was cute and festive but not over the top.
